For Volunteers
The Civic Listening Corps (CLC) is powered by volunteers who commit their time to understand and address misinformation.
Anyone can join by doing the following:
Register to volunteer. Volunteers can easily sign up to join the Civic Listening Corps by completing this quick form!
Get onboarded! After registering, you will be invited to participate in an onboarding training where you will get an introduction to the challenges of misinformation, an overview of how civic listening works, and resources to begin social media monitoring.
After participating in an onboarding session, volunteers are added to the CLC Slack workspace where they can sign up for our events, get help form CLC staff , and meet fellow volunteers.
Monitor content. Every week, volunteers have an opportunity to join a guided monitoring shift to actively participate in monitoring topics that disrupt communities across the globe. Volunteers monitor topics that have been researched and prioritized by the research analysts of the Civic Listening Corp.
Volunteers can monitor content within their own social media feeds or via the custom monitoring dashboards in Junkipedia.
While volunteers are invited to attend weekly monitoring shifts hosted by the Civic Listening Crops staff, participants can monitor anytime they wish to use our tools.
Volunteers submit and annotate examples of problematic content to Junkipedia tiplines via web form, SMS, or email.
At the end of each shift, volunteers get a summary of the monitoring output and details on upcoming shifts.
Gain insights. Every two weeks, volunteers receive a report detailing the key insights gathered by the CLC coalition and advice on how to address new and emerging threats in their daily life.
For Organizations
Organizations can partner with the Civic Listening Corps (CLC) to join the campaign to combat misinformation. Partnering with the Civic Listening Corps provides:
Custom reporting and data analysis tools. Your organization can set up reporting tiplines that empower your community members to submit issues of misinformation they see online. You can use a tip review dashboard to help your organization understand the key insights generated from your community and innoculate your response to misinformation.
Training and resources. Staff members of the CLC can train your organization and volunteers about misinformation, reporting, and using technical tools to address the challenges of misinformation. ATI can also provide the promotional assets necessary to encourage volunteer recruitment and misinformation reporting.
